Kelli Ali – Rocking Horse
13 track CD album.
Former singer for Sneaker Pimps, Kelli Dayton left the group in 1998 and adopted the name Kelli Ali in honour of her father, Michael Ali. Her first solo record Tigermouth, released in 2003, moved away from her trip-hop roots and featured ex-Doors drummer John Densmore. She toured alongside Garbage and released her second solo album Psychic Cat the following year. Rocking Horse, her third album, came out in 2008.
Turning to an acoustic guitar for inspiration, Kelli Ali took an entirely new and refreshing musical direction for Rocking Horse, which leads away from her earlier electro pop routes (Sneaker Pimps’, Becoming X album and previous solo albums, Tiger Mouth and Psychic Cat) and into a darker, more folk-inspired, Vashti meets Ennio Morricone fairytale for lovers of classic, timeless songwriting.
A magical and skillfully crafted collection of songs, recorded in Edinburgh, over a three month period in early Spring 2008, Rocking Horse is a unique exploration of modern folk and contemporary classical music. Shimmering string quartet and flute arrangements, cor anglais and vintage organs, entwine beautifully with the masterful acoustic guitar playing of Marc Pilley and the minimalist haunting piano work of Max Richter.
