“Just in Passing… In the New World Dystopia of Covid-19, time has evaporated, space has dissolved, and the golden moment of the ‘now’ has expanded to become an infinity of absurdities. Viral malignancy? Yup, the circus comes to town, and guess what, we’re the clowns. Malice in blunderland? Karma drama? Nature defiling the defiler, or just a nasty piece of opportunist social engineering on the back of sinister biological jiggery-pokery? Income or outcome, this is the torpid chaos of enforced ignorance; lockdown, shut down and shut up. Don’t look now, but any sense of personal and/or social security, economic or otherwise, has become glaringly exposed for the illusion that it always has been. Likewise, dreams of any material permanence and stability have been carried away by the winds of fate to fall on barren deserts of our own making. Mind the mirage of the mind. ‘Just in Passing…’ opposes the growing totalitarianism inching its way into our lives on the back of Covid-19. ‘Just in Passing…’ was created over the periods of lockdown starting in March 2020 through to January 2021. Penny Rimbaud’s aphorisms and illustrations for ‘Little Notes on Crisis Karma’ appeared as daily tweets on his Twitter site and remain an ongoing project. The essay, ‘Unfathomable Shadows’, was written in response to the global pandemic, incorporating an earlier poem, ‘Shadows’, because of its prescient nature. The essay was then used as the script for the movie/DVD, ‘Time and Place’ which poses crucial questions concerning Covid-19, and was made in collaboration with filmmaker Mick Duffield.

The book was designed by Gee Vaucher and produced jointly by Exitstencil Press and One Little Independent Records as part of the ‘Normal Never Was’ project in aid of Refuge.

Refuge is a UK based charity set up in 1971 to give specialist support for women and children suffering domestic violence which, as a side-effect of Covid-19 lockdowns, increased exponentially.
