Fluke – Puppy
11 track album on CD and double black vinyl,
Puppy is the fifth album by British electronica group Fluke, first released on 18 August 2003. The album contains a variety of genres, spanning from house to ambient and even including the blues track, ‘Blue Sky’.
Fluke’s fifth and final album ‘Puppy’, originally released in 2003. Spanning a variety of genres including ambient and house, the band’s conception was influenced by their interest in acid-house and in particular the work of Carbaret Voltaire and Giorgio Moroder.
Being their first album recorded without Mike Tournier having left Virgin Records to join One Little Independent, the album’s name was inspired by Jeff Koon’s fifty foot sculpture of a puppy that stands outside the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.
Known for their endlessly cycling layers of fizzing synths and big filter-sweeps, their live shows drew comparisons to the likes of Chemical Brothers due to their use visual effects, lasers and project displays. Alongside this, many tracks went on to secure high profile placements in films such as The Matrix Reloaded and The Experiement, as well games such as Need For Speed and Total Club Manager.
Outside of the album, Fluke remixed Björk’s Big Time Sensuality, with a different edit of the remix featured in the music video for the song, directed by Stéphane Sednaoui, in which Björk dances and sings on a truck throughout New York City. The video was praised by critics and fans and received heavy rotation on MTV channels.
