Consisting of Sarah Nixey, Auteurs frontman Luke Haines and chief Idler, sometime Jesus And Mary Chain member and retired absinthe importer John Moore, the legendary British dark pop trio Black Box Recorder released their definitive CD boxset – Life is Unfair – on June 8th 2018. The package is made up of previously unreleased material and a DVD containing live footage and official music videos.

This highly anticipated boxset includes the albums England Made Me, The Facts of Life, Passionoia and a 16 track bonus CD of unreleased material, BBC sessions, single versions, remixes, plus a DVD of the band performing live at The Forum on 27 October 2008, as well as 5 music videos. There is also an accompanying booklet featuring various sleeve notes and writings from the band. 

Black Box Recorder debuted in 1998 with ‘England Made Me’, which was banned from national radio for the lyric “Life is unfair/ Kill yourself and get over it.” Another single, ‘The Facts Of Life’, was a subversive sugar-coated pop-pill charting in the top 20 which led to the band appearing on Top Of The Pops. In late 2008 it was announced that the band would be playing a couple of shows at The Luminaire and The Queen Elizabeth Hall in early 2009 – their most prestigious show to date. The gigs quickly sold out, and a second appearance at The Luminaire was announced.
