Penny Rimbaud – Shut The F++k Up – Free Download
‘Shut the F++k Up’ is a ‘lockdown meditation’ movie created by Penny Rimbaud. In his own words, the piece is ‘a journey to the nowhere that is our true home, where the universal devours the individual and the light shines yet creates no shadow. In short, nothing is quite what it seems to be.’
Running for almost two hours, the movie is an ethereal collage of words and images backed by an almost ghostly soundtrack of a greatly stretched version of Rimbaud’s pre-Crass band, Exit, performing ‘The Mystic Trumpeter’ at London’s Roundhouse in 1972, remembered by Rimbaud as ‘those halcyon pre-dystopian days.’ Then, responding to the second national lockdown, he states, ‘my hope is that the video will offer people a respite from the demanding if not gruelling nature of the New World Disorder. Deadly pandemic or cynical contrivance? Your guess is as good as mine. Never had it so bad? Take a long, considered look at the cruel political and religious history of humankind and tell me that anything has significantly changed. It‘s just that this time around it’s affecting us (or so it seems).’
‘Shut the F++k Up’ will be released by One Little Independent as a free download while giving the option of making a donation to ‘Refuge’, the charity of choice for Crass’ ‘Normal Never Was’ project.
